Padswood Farm - Our Story

We are Dawn and Perry, land stewards, growers, and enthusiasts of all things wild.

Our journey began with a shared dream of becoming active stewards of a thriving eco-system. We scoured the countryside for the perfect site, drawing inspiration from countless expert growers, books, films, and farm tours. Every story ignited our fascination with the profound wisdom of nature and the potential to work in harmony with the land.

Falling in Love with the Land
From the moment we first visited the 13-acre site at Sedlescombe in 2019, we knew we had found the perfect spot. It was larger than anticipated, but its varied topography, streams, ponds, woodland, and inherent wildness captured our hearts.

The land had a unique history: it had been left to its own devices for the previous thirty years, managed only by a herd of forty free-roaming horses with minimum intervention. No draining of wet fields, clearing of fallen trees, or altering of natural water flow. This hands-off approach allowed a thriving ecosystem to evolve, a haven for wildflowers, insects, amphibians, birds, bats, and animals.

The Regenerative Journey Begins
Renaming the site Padswood Farm, we laid out our first forty raised beds in 2021, and the market garden began to take shape.

Our core philosophy is simple: always prioritise natural processes. Our journey has been a careful balance of growing the market garden to feed our community while managing the site as a holistic, rewilded farm. We are committed to a form of agriculture that doesn't just harvest; it restores.
